Dentures

Dentures are a tooth replacement option that can be removed and reinserted into your mouth at your convenience. We recommend full dentures when all the natural teeth have been removed from the mouth. There are two types of full dentures:

Conventional Full Dentures

When all the teeth are removed and after the tissue has healed, we can place full dentures. It could take a few months for the gum tissue to heal completely, and during this time, you will be without teeth.

Immediate Full Dentures

Before having your teeth removed, your dentist will take measurements to fit dentures for your mouth. After removing the teeth, the dentures are immediately placed in your mouth. The benefit is that you do not have to spend any time without teeth. You will, however, need to have a follow-up visit to refit your dentures because the jaw bone will change shape as your mouth heals. The dentures will need to be tightened after the jawbone has healed.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are a good option when not all of your teeth need to be removed. A partial denture is similar to a bridge, but it is not a permanent fixture in your mouth.

What to Expect

Your dentures may take some time to get used to. Some people say that their dentures feel bulky or they don’t have enough room for their tongue. Others say their dentures feel loose. This will affect the way you eat and talk for a short time. Afterward, your mouth becomes accustomed to eating and speaking with your dentures, and they begin to feel increasingly like your natural teeth. Your dentures may never feel perfectly comfortable, but they will feel much better than not having teeth.

Even though dentures are not real teeth, you should care for them as if they were. You should brush them to remove plaque and food particles before removing your dentures. After removing them, place your dentures directly into room-temperature water or a denture cleaning solution. Never use hot water to avoid warping the dentures.

Dentures are delicate, so be careful when handling them to avoid dropping them. Also, never try to adjust your dentures yourself. Always call us if they feel uncomfortable or loose.
