What Are Dental Implants

Dental implants are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. They are superior to other tooth replacement options, such as dental bridges, because no additional teeth need to be altered to place the new tooth.

We will perform the entire implant process over the course of a few months. The first part of the process involves installing the implant into the jawbone. Your dentist will make an incision in the gum to insert the implant. We can place multiple implants at once if needed. After the implants are placed, we will suture your gums.

You will need to wait three to six months for your implants to heal, during which time your jawbone will form around the implant in a process called osseointegration. During this healing time, we can install temporary crowns to help you eat and speak normally.

After your implant has healed, it is time to place an abutment on the implant. The abutment works as the base for the replacement tooth. We will make an impression of the abutment to use as the basis for creating your permanent restoration.

Once the new tooth is ready, you can return to our office to have it permanently attached. Your smile will look just like it used to! After a short period of getting used to the implant, it will feel just like one of your own teeth.
